Spacious cottage located over the water in a private setting. If you love the water, consider this self contained cottage located over Whaletown Lagoon. The cottage was once a float home and has a very interesting history. It is meticulously clean and very comfortable, offering all the conveniences found in a modern cottage. It features a private deck overlooking the lagoon, a hot water bath tub on the deck with privacy screen, and includes shared use of the family dock. Ideal for kayakers or those looking for a peaceful setting.
At low tide you can explore the lagoon (bring gum boots!) and when the tide is up you have the ocean right under your deck. The water in the Lagoon is nice and warm for swimming as the tide comes in over the hot sand. For kayakers or boaters there is a dock near the Floathouse that is shared with the owners. You can moor your boat in Whaletown Bay and easily walk to your vacation home. The Whaletown Post Office, the Government dock, and the Gorge Harbour Marina & Store are all an easy 15 – 20 minute walk away. Kayakers can keep their kayaks right in front of the Floathouse and even if the tide is out you can haul your kayaks to the bay. The water in this area is perfect for day tripping in kayaks with many areas to explore.
The large open combined living space has vaulted ceilings and lots of windows and offers seating for up to 10 guests or more! There are books, boardgames, CD’s and a DVD player provided for your enjoyment. The glass door opens onto the private deck with an outdoor hot-water bathtub. The kitchen has an electric stove, fridge, microwave plus many small appliances. There is a washer and dryer plus bathroom with shower. The cozy bedroom is set up with a double bed and the living room couch pulls out into another double bed.
“We loved staying in the Floathouse. So cozy in the mist and showers and so beautiful in the sun, watching the lagoon fill up and empty again. Thank you for the cookies, fresh flowers and for keeping the Floathouse so clean…all appreciated. We will come again!”

“We absolutely loved our week at the floathouse. So relaxing. Loved your wonderful hospitality. The kayaking was wonderful, walking your school kids trail a treat, tub on the deck was wonderful. When we return to Cortes there is only one place we would stay and that’s at your little piece of paradise.”

“We had a lovely time on our Cortes Island getaway. Spent a lot a time hiking, kayaking and relaxing in the eveninings with a glass of wine and watching the sun go down. The Lagoon Floathouse was fantastic, everything that I hoped it would be. Rustic, but with all the amenities for a comfortable holiday. A very serene and private setting nestled amongst the red cedars and the incoming tide coming right up under Floathouse at high tide. We especially enjoyed sitting down on the small dock in the evenings and watching the comings and goings of the lagoon denizens, kingfishers, Canada geese and great blue herons to name a few. Would definitely recommend this rental to anyone who like their vacations peaceful and quiet but with the option of going on some very awesome outings.”

“Thanks so much Lisa, It’s good to be back. The floathouse has provided me with a lovely week of quiet and solitude in a gorgeous setting and comfortable surroundings. Allowed myself one cookie a day until they were gone – delicious, thanks! Have a wonderful summer!”

“Merry Christmas and many thanks for sharing your home with us. We had a wonderful stay. What a beautiful place to celebrate the holidays and experience a bit of Cortes winter. The cookies were delicious and the floathouse decorated nicely for the season. We look forward to visiting again.”

“My husband and I stayed 5 nights at Cortes Island, a quiet time of year but Lisa’s place is lovely…very cozy and had everything you needed. She welcomed us with beautiful natural island flower arrangements around the house, so thoughtful! We explored different parts of the island, smelt harbour, hollyhock, whaletown and had lovely drinks & dinner at the gorge restaurant. Made some meals at home with wild pacific chum salmon from the gorge grocery store. Very friendly people with beautiful gardens. Thanks Lisa.”

“We had a very pleasant stay at Lisa’s cozy cabin with my family. It is a place with lots of history and beautiful arts and crafts from the old days, yet clean and tidy. The shower had great pressure and hot water to last. Most of the things you need in your kitchen for cooking is also available in the Floathouse kitchen. The outdoor tub is an amusing feature of the place. we used it a couple of times and it was really fun!”

“The Whaletown Lagoon Floathouse is a unique and extremely comfortable cottage with an interesting history (it was built in the 20s and floated from logging camp to logging camp) and a lovely warm vibe. The lagoon is beautiful. One morning I saw my first-ever stag gingerly crossing at low tide, and the sunsets and sunrises, even the rainy mornings, were gorgeous. The two-level deck and floating dock with picnic table and deck chairs offer varied relaxing and dining possibilities (we ate most of our dinners on the dock), while the screened outdoor tub combines the sounds and smells of nature with hot-water luxury. Whaletown itself is much quieter and quainter than the Manson’s Landing and Hague Lake area where I’ve stayed before, and I would definitely choose this cottage again. My daughter and I also really enjoyed meeting Lisa, the owner, who lives in a floathouse as well, just up the bank. She was very warm and helpful, bringing me coffee when a power outage struck on my first day and lending us spices for a special meal. This is the nicest cottage actually I think I’ve ever stayed in!”

“We had a wonderful stay at Lisas Whaletown Lagoon Floathouse. Lisa is a wonderful hostess and the house is fully equipped, I spent much quality time with our Lab Penny while Deb did a program at Hollyhock. I especially enjoyed the hour by hour changes in the lagoon, the wildlife that come and go and some just be attached to rocks. The high tide flood, which happens surprisingly quickly.”
