This spacious cottage sits atop a rocky bluff with a vista of forest, marsh and a country lane lined with fields — a quiet rural setting. There is a large wraparound deck for private outdoor living, with a partial shade roof, deck furniture and barbeque.

Inside is a fully equipped kitchen, dining nook, upstairs sleeping loft with queen bed, comfortable pullout bed in the main room, and a large bathroom on the main floor with tub and shower.

As a bonus, this property offers guests access to a lovely sandy beach on Hague Lake located a 5 minute walk away. The lake is great for swimming, canoeing or kayaking (no motor boats are allowed on the lake). The cottage is also very close to Hollyhock and its’ many facilities and workshops.

As you stroll to the beach, stop at the beaver pond to take pictures of its’ many inhabitants. Watch the turkey vultures compete for airtime with the eagles and hawks that dominate the valley below, and as the evening draws to an end, hop in the car and head 5 minutes away over to Smelt Bay to watch the sun set over the Vancouver Island peaks.

Bring your hiking shoes! The entrance to Kw”as Park is just down the road with fabulous hiking trails that will keep you busy exploring for a week (note: no bikes are allowed on these trails). There is a marsh area as part of the property and park that is a nesting site and home for many birds, otter, beaver and other wildlife, so the naturalist and outdoors lovers in the family will be kept very busy.

Owned by the Hope family for many years, Tan Island has been protected, enhanced and transformed into a welcoming and comfortable private island retreat.  The waterfront cottages are not only charming, they also contain the perfect balance of rustic simplicity and modern convenience.

There are 2 waterfront cabins, each with large decks for relaxing, barbequing, and watching the world go by. The cabins have been placed well apart , with privacy in mind.

The first of the cabins has 2 bedrooms, each with a queen bed. It has a bathroom and shower and spacious living room. Just steps away there is a fully equipped and spacious detached kitchen, with lots of room to gather and eat, play board games, do crafts and projects or just “hang out”.

The 2nd cabin also has 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and the other with twin beds. This cabin too has its own bathroom, living/dining space and large deck with BBQ, but also has a small kitchen within the cabin.

The owners have a large “lodge” further along the shore on the property and welcome guests to use the phone or the internet there. They are great hosts and enjoy meeting new folks as well as welcoming back those who have been coming for years. The dock, in deep water with easy access, is a scenic walk from the cabins past the “lodge” – it can accommodate a number of boats.

You can wander through the cool greenness of the island’s forest of pine, fir, cedar and arbutus that is home to the deer listening to birdsong and the sounds of the sea.  This is the ideal place for boaters looking for a peaceful, private island escape from the stress of modern life. Access is via the protected private dock.

If you do not have your own boat, it is possible to arrange for a pick up from the public dock on Cortes Is. near the Gorge Marina. The Marina itself, just minutes from Tan Island, offers all of the facilities you could wish for — from a heated swimming pool to a well-stocked store; from fuel and propane to fine dining.

Rental of a small boat may be available by arrangement with the owner or at the Gorge Harbour Marina or you can bring your own boat. (Boat rentals must be arranged separately and are not included in the prices above)

RATES 2012

All rates are based on a weekly rental and 4 guests per cabin. There is an extra charge of $25 per guest per night for over 4 guests. The maximum guests this site can accommodate is 8.

High season:
July 1 – August 31 – $1250.00 per cabin per week for 4 guests in each cabin rented seperately.
$2400 per week for both cabins
