Owned by the Hope family for many years, Tan Island has been protected, enhanced and transformed into a welcoming and comfortable private island retreat.  The waterfront cottages are not only charming, they also contain the perfect balance of rustic simplicity and modern convenience.

There are 2 waterfront cabins, each with large decks for relaxing, barbequing, and watching the world go by. The cabins have been placed well apart , with privacy in mind.

The first of the cabins has 2 bedrooms, each with a queen bed. It has a bathroom and shower and spacious living room. Just steps away there is a fully equipped and spacious detached kitchen, with lots of room to gather and eat, play board games, do crafts and projects or just “hang out”.

The 2nd cabin also has 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and the other with twin beds. This cabin too has its own bathroom, living/dining space and large deck with BBQ, but also has a small kitchen within the cabin.

The owners have a large “lodge” further along the shore on the property and welcome guests to use the phone or the internet there. They are great hosts and enjoy meeting new folks as well as welcoming back those who have been coming for years. The dock, in deep water with easy access, is a scenic walk from the cabins past the “lodge” – it can accommodate a number of boats.

You can wander through the cool greenness of the island’s forest of pine, fir, cedar and arbutus that is home to the deer listening to birdsong and the sounds of the sea.  This is the ideal place for boaters looking for a peaceful, private island escape from the stress of modern life. Access is via the protected private dock.

If you do not have your own boat, it is possible to arrange for a pick up from the public dock on Cortes Is. near the Gorge Marina. The Marina itself, just minutes from Tan Island, offers all of the facilities you could wish for — from a heated swimming pool to a well-stocked store; from fuel and propane to fine dining.

Rental of a small boat may be available by arrangement with the owner or at the Gorge Harbour Marina or you can bring your own boat. (Boat rentals must be arranged separately and are not included in the prices above)

RATES 2012

All rates are based on a weekly rental and 4 guests per cabin. There is an extra charge of $25 per guest per night for over 4 guests. The maximum guests this site can accommodate is 8.

High season:
July 1 – August 31 – $1250.00 per cabin per week for 4 guests in each cabin rented seperately.
$2400 per week for both cabins

This is also a warm and [...]]]> T’ai Li Lodge is made up of 2 distinct sites, “the Lodge” and “Arbutus Point Camp”. They can be rented separately or together.

The Lodge

It stands on a peninsula surrounded on 3 sides by the sea. This peninsula forms a secure anchorage where a dock and 3 guest moorings are located. This is also a warm and wonderful place to swim.

The Lodge is a 1600 sq. ft. home perched above the sea, with large windows filled with stunning scenery – ocean, mountains, trees and quiet harbour. You will be surrounded by bird songs and the sound of water.

The building has decks on 2 sides (1 with screening), enhanced by planters of flowers and fresh herbs. Beyond the decks, the grounds have been kept in their natural state with minimal clearing and magical footpaths. Large sloping rocks covered with moss and dwarf evergreens form your front yard.

The Lodge building was completely rebuilt in 2005 and features a custom finished interior of local and exotic woods. There are 2 baths, 1 with a bathtub and 1 with a shower. There is also a delightful outdoor solar shower with a grand view down the Strait of Georgia.

The kitchen has long counters, extra large refrigerator/freezer, a dishwasher, and is equipped to feed up to 20 guests. There are 2 bedrooms in the “lodge” building plus a cabin and platform tent nearby – accommodation for up to 8 guests. more photos

RATES 2012

All rates are based on a weekly rental for a maximum of 6 guests in the Lodge and 16 guests on the whole site. *For additional guests there is an extra charge of $25 per guest per night. The maximum guests that the Lodge can accommodate is 8, and the maximum guests that the whole site can accommodate is 20.

*The Lodge is on the same property as Arbutus Point Camp under “Cabins and Cottages”

Extra charges may apply for use of the dock and facilities by boats other than those belonging to the renters of the property. Cabins and platform tents are available with B&B service, see Arbutus Point Camp

Arbutus Point Camp

Just established in 2005 as either a separate or integrated facility with the Lodge, Arbutus Point Camp is built around “the Commons”. Arbutus Commons is a unique cedar building with a living green moss roof. It has a multi-level deck with steps leading down to the ocean shore.
The view is over Desolation Sound to the snow-capped Coast Mountains. As with the Lodge, this is a spectacular, tranquil and private setting.

Arbutus Commons has space for inside or outdoor dining, a small but complete kitchen, a full bathroom with shower, toilet and vanity. Space is available for small group meetings, family reunions or workshops.

Built in secluded waterfront locations around the Commons are charming cabins and platform style tents furnished with comfortable beds and full linen service. A gourmet breakfast is available.
