Up to four people can comfortably share this charming cottage.

The loft bedroom is furnished with a queen bed, and the den has a double futon…… the den has its’ own doorway onto the garden.

Near the southern tip of Cortes Island the almost hidden driveway opens to reveal a three acre forested playground featuring an awesome hammock perch, a frisbee friendly meadow, and a stunning picnic table location with a trail to a private beach below for kayaking, swimming, or quiet meditation. An average day may include watching the sunrise or the moonrise from the artfully landscaped deck, spending time in the garden with its nearby orchard, or simply surveying the stunning panoramic views of Baker Pass and Twin and Hernando Islands. As you walk into the house you will be struck by the golden light of the natural woods, and by a feeling of absolute tranquility and serenity. Kitchen, dining room and living room are an open concept, all overlooking the expansive forest and ocean view. Wide doors lead to extensive deck space for lounging or dining outdoors. This is a dream house for musicians and those seeking a quiet place to curl up and read or write. The owner has left a small library of select books.

The kitchen is compact, but fully equipped. There is a small office space as well as a pantry and laundry area at the back of the house.

The master bedroom looks out through floor-to-ceiling windows onto a natural garden of rock, moss and evergreen. The adjoining bathroom is almost ‘a sculpture’ of tile, glass and wood, again surrounded by the outdoor landscape of green, inviting you to relax in the tub.

There is a loft with a queen bed – the steep ladder restricts its’ use to agile guests – but the comfort is worth the climb. In addition, there is a single futon in the living room to allow a 5th family member to join you. more photos.

The newly built cottage is very tastefully appointed and offers all the conveniences of a modern home. The front decks overlook the lake and give you access to the lake only steps away.

The loft bedroom is accessed by a spiral staircase and overlooks the lake.

The living room includes a wood stove for cozy intimate evenings. The cottage is tucked away behind the rocks and the lake view is tranquil and relaxing. The cottage is located within minutes of the wonderful K’was Bay hiking trails. This waterfront cottage is full of charm! The cottage is fully equipped and can comfortably sleep four but is ideal for a romantic couples retreat. It is surrounded by a lush, landscaped garden and enjoys wonderful ocean views and offers easy access to Smelt Bay beach via a landscaped rock stairway. The cottage is small but very well laid out with open living, dining, kitchen area and loft bedroom that is accessed by a spiral stair case.

There is lots of out door living space with the covered front deck that features a sleeping nook with bug netting for a comfortable nights sleep. There is also a large dining deck that is very private and nicely landscaped and over looks the ocean as well as the garden. For the young at heart there is an old fashioned soaker bath tub outside as well as a shower in the bathroom.

The ocean view is wonderful and Smelt Bay beach is only steps away. The SW exposure makes for great sunsets. The property is fully fenced and very private giving the sense of being in your own beach front oasis. more photos

Sitting on the deck on the water side of the historic Whaletown General Store, looking out past Quadra Island to the snow-capped mountains of Vancouver Island will become a treasured memory.

The store is no more; it has been renovated into a modern suite perched on the rocky shoreline of Cortes Island. It is part of a small, historic hamlet that was first used as a whaling station in 1869.

Established across Whaletown Bay, from its current location, the store was moved around 1927. It has been owned and operated by George Frost since 1989. George closed the store at the end of 2006 and has created a wonderful retreat in the same space.

This is an ideal vacation rental for anyone who loves the sea and the beauty of the British Columbia Coast. The “Store” is just a few steps from the Whaletown Government Dock and across the bay from the ferry landing. Those who arrive in their own boat or bring one with them will find moorage at their door step. The constantly changing maritime scene will provide hours of interest. As the day ends, so does the gentle activity, until at sunset a delightful quiet settles over Whaletown Harbour.

That’s when you’ll really appreciate the cozy, snug two-bedroom suite that George has built. With one eye to the past and the other to modern conveniences, you will find a livingroom which opens on to an expansive sea deck and a modern kitchen on the land side.

There are two fully equipped bathrooms and two bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed and one with a double bed. Of course, everything is old fashion clean and absolutely brand new. George lives in the adjoining suite with his friendly cat “Shoelace” who may sometimes be your companion as you watch the sun set over the mountains of Vancouver Island. more photos
