Sited on a bluff overlooking the beach, the house has a beautiful south western view. A generous deck runs the full length of the building which is surrounded by lawn and mature trees. The white sand and pebble beach is just a two minute walk away down an easy trail.

It is not hard to imagine pleasant late afternoons watching a deer grazing on the edge of the lawn, eagles soaring on the thermals over the waters of the "Inside Passage", and boats passing by on their way to the evening anchorage. The sun sets behind the jagged peaks of Vancouver Island just to the west.

Approximately 1300 square feet, the fully furnished and well equipped interior is finished in soft earth tones and varnished native wood. An open kitchen/dining/living area with a large picture window and sliding glass door opening onto the deck allow for a comfortable indoor/outdoor summer living experience. The master bedroom also features deck access, a water view and a large walk-in closet.

The other two bedrooms have bunk beds with double mattresses on the bottom to accommodate up to 6 guests between the two rooms. One bathroom has a bathtub/shower, while a second bathroom has a toilet and sink.

Though you may be trying to escape them…. phone, satellite TV, DVD player and PC with dial-up internet access are also available.

The beach at Smelt Bay with its' broad inter tidal zone will provide hours of fun and discovery. The swimming is great and there is always an opportunity to harvest oysters and clams, for which Cortes Island is famous. The Provincial Park is a five minute walk and is the site of the annual Cortes Island Day festivities, Sand Castle competition and nightly gathering of locals and visitors to watch the often glorious sunsets.

Less than a five minute drive away is Hollyhock, a seasonal learning centre, and "uptown" Manson's Landing. There you will find the Credit Union, the well-stocked Cortes Market, a natural food store, post office, restaurant, cafe, Island fast food take-out, skate park, and a fabulous Friday Farmer's market. Rental bicycles are available and delightful fresh water swimming is just a few minutes further on at Hague Lake. It is not quite a town, but it's as close to one as you’ll find on Cortes.

Come to visit our Island and leave the commercialism and "glitz" two ferries behind you.
