This custom-built family home is located on South Point Rd. at the very southern end of Cortes Island, on a 2.5 acre waterfront bluff site. The house is snuggled up to an old growth Douglas Fir which guards the front door. A stone courtyard and stone steps are features of the main entry, providing a warm welcome.
A tiled hallway opens onto the main living area. The sunken living room is graced with curved oak steps and large picture windows with spectacular ocean views of the Georgia Strait, Twin Islands, and the Coastal Mountain Range. The adjacent TV room is equipped with satellite TV, DVD, and stereo. The dining area is in the center of the main floor with a large dining table to accommodate family and friends.

The spacious, open kitchen, with custom cherry and birds eye maple cabinets, custom counter tops, and a convenient island, provides a fabulous work space for cooks. There is even a low counter designed for the baker or for smaller children. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, fridge, gas stove and the basic small appliances.
On a deck off of the main floor, you will find a gas BBQ with deck chairs and a table for outdoor dining and lounging. Stairs lead down to the yard. From the deck (and most windows of the house) you can watch the eagle tree on the corner of the property. There have been up to three eagles perched there at once such a treat!

There are three bedrooms upstairs, The master bedroom has a queen bed with a grand ocean vista to the east, and also southerly garden views. The second bedroom has a king bed with a view to the old growth Douglas Fir and a westerly exposure, while the third bedroom has a queen bed and a view to the ocean. A second single bed can be provided for one of the bedrooms as required. There is also a fold out couch in the TV room on the main floor. A new bathroom has just been completed upstairs with 2 sinks, toilet, shower stall and soaker tub. There is a also a 3 piece bathroom downstairs with a shower and vintage pedestal sink.

To preserve the white oak floors both upstairs and down, we request that shoes be removed at the front door and dogs be kept outside. The expansive fenced yard, with wire garden fencing 6’ high, keeps the deer out and keeps the children, dogs, and horses in the yard. The yard has a large open grassy area where horses once grazed (bring your horse!) and another flatter area on the water side of the home to play on. A cement basketball court provides extra fun for all of “the kids”.
Past the garden area on the south side of the home there is a deer trail/ path/ steps down the bluff to the beautiful beach below. Hollyhock is a fifteen minute walk up the road. Smelt Bay is a short drive away, as are Hague Lake and the village of Manson’s Landing with store, bank, post office, and restaurant or you can cycle along quiet roads and well maintained trails.
This is an ideal home for a family retreat --- it is a quiet, private, and located where the forest meets the sea.
